Firesday to Darksday is our weekly wrap-up column on O's Kote and it will be covering the week that was in FFXI, going over good blogs you should check out, interesting threads on any forums we might notice or anything else that might have slipped by in the night. We are always on the look out for FFXI information for you!
It has been a busy week for Japanese gaming coverage, not just for FFXI but also for FFXIV. There were some interesting tid-bits about the future, but nothing you couldn't have guessed or already knew. That being said it was nice to get some confirmation on the status of both games. Let's start with our favorite Japanese translator Elmer who has recently moved over to ZAM! and is providing some great information for us in the last couple of weeks!
First off is Elmer's translation of a new Connect! On interview about FFXIV. The interview didn't have much in the way of new information but it was informative and had some decent speculation. Also, it had a nice statement about FFXI to assure players that it wasn't going anywhere.
For more coverage of this week's news check after the break.
Second, Elmer does it again with his translation of Famitsu's interview regarding Pandemonium Warden. The article is very good on the explanation of the design of PW, and why it drives most players crazy. Makes you wonder what the developers are thinking sometimes.
A real treat is that a writer on Massively.com, a site dedicated to all things MMO, has recently picked up FFXI again after a long break and is providing coverage of his return. Starting last week, the story chronicles his beginner feeling all over again, and this week they started experiencing partying in FFXI and still enjoyed it! LOL
Sometimes you can look at a story and get a feeling for it, but sometimes what people report isn't really what happened. The Chinese banning RMT story was a big hit for a couple of days, but the Blue Gartr forums seemed to really understand the story. The Chinese really aren't banning RMT, they are trying to stop other people from using RMT to cover up other crimes. Pretty interesting info in there.
If you find anything interesting out there in the vast and infinite net send it along and we will get it out to everyone! Thanks!

Firesday to Darksday: The Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Edition.
Firesday to Darksday is weekly wrap-up column on O's Kote and it will be covering the week that was in FFXI, going over good blogs you should check out, interesting threads on any forums we might notice or anything else that might have slipped by in the night. We are always on the look out for FFXI information for you!
An interesting week for forum-goers that is for sure, especially for those internet lawyers out there! Do you have a forum account? Then you to can be an internet lawyer!
The headline news? SE is being sued by someone that doesn't really understand how an MMO works. Blue Gartr seems to keep a level head about the situation with only a few people complaining about completely different issues. But several other places picked up on this story in much the same way that they did when some kid couldn't figure out how to cancel their account.
A rather interesting interview with Producer Tanaka in the Japanese Playstation magazine on the ZAM site translated by Elmer the Pointy (and Awesome it should be added). Tanaka assures the fearful that FFXI is going to continue and far past the "years worth of content" that he previously mentioned and some brilliant people misconstrued to mean only a year. (Insider tip here: Video game companies often work on more than one game at a time! Shocking, I know.) A ton of information about the July Update and future ones in this article.
Finally, we have some interesting speculation on FFXIV that was actually picked up by some other video game sites. Eorzeapedia perused one of SE's job pages and found some jobs requiring familiarity with FFXI needed to be filled by September. While I can't necessarily dispute their speculation that it means that a FFXIV beta might be closer than we think the evidence they give is a little specious. There is nothing in the Job Descriptions to indicate anything more than SE needing some more French and German GM's. Remember, this is the European division not Japanese or US, I wouldn't be surprised if they just needed more people to cover for both games.
If you find anything interesting about FFXI or FFXIV for that matter let us know!

Firesday to Darksday: The Round-up!
Firesday to Darksday is our newest column on O's Kote and it will be covering the week that was in FFXI, going over good blogs you should check out, interesting threads on any forums we might notice or anything else that might have slipped by in the night. We are always on the look out for FFXI information for you!
This week was a little bit of hype with very little follow through from SE. Hopefully next week we will be seeing a little bit more information about the July update. In the mean time here is what you might have missed this week.
First of all the newest episode of Limit Break Radio is now available covering Einherjar for the most part.
Corinth has a great post on JP Button how SE managed to tune down some of the potential racism associated with RMT.
We also have a rather interesting blog post by Etrigan on how to Call for Help in interesting and actually helpful ways.
If you see anything interesting, thoughtful or juicy posted throughout the week then let us know by leaving a comment! Help spread the word!

Forum Fishing: Magic Damage Calculator with backsolver for mob INT.
Although this thread is a necrobump by the author, Bashfr, I think it's one that we should all be glad that got bumped because it looks like he has created one of the best looking, easiest to use and most capable Magic Damage Calculator that we have available right now. The best part is that if you provide a little bit of testing you will be able to solve back the INT of just about any mob in the game.
It's too bad that really interesting and valuable resources like this are lost so often in forum drama and complaints. To prevent that from happening as often, I will be adding them here and onto the new site so people will have them into the future. This new column will be called Forum Fishing and will provide any interesting tidbits that may float across the variety of forums and websites that support the FFXI community. Hey, when you don't have Blue posts to latch onto, who else is going to sort the wheat from the crap posts, right? Anyway, this one is definitely worth a look at even if it is just to get a better understanding of the math behind the damage calculations. If you are going to use this MDC I would suggest that you take the time to do just a few of those requisite tests to figure out the INT of whatever you happen to be nuking at the time and just add it to the wiki, so that other people can have the information in the future.
