POL News: Are We Really Supposed to Care About This?

I don't even know if this post is worth the click. In an attempt to fill space on the week before an update, SE has posted the results of the Stratics "No One Cares About Your Fanfic Because You Can't Write" contest.

Seriously, no one cares. Ok, maybe a few people care. Like Kallo. And there I think I have made my point about this whole thing. It is less than a week until the next update and we have gotten on marginal update note. SE doesn't really hide their update notes like they used to, they are pretty specific and this time it looks like they don't have much to say. Maybe tomorrow will be awesome, but even if there is one tomorrow, will there be one on Friday? They have started having an extra update note on the day of the update, which makes no sense to me at all. It's like having one of the trailers before a movie be of the movie you are about to watch.

It really feels like SE is mailing in updates at this point and have been doing so for at least two updates. This whole mini-expansion thing is just acting as filler for SE to give really small game updates. And the slack can be seen even before that when most of the ZNM gear was released as recycled 5 year old low graphic quality gear. They didn't even take the time to recolor the stuff. The game is still fun to play, but it probably has the same problem that an MMO commentator pointed out about WoW recently: it is being run by the B-team. You can definitely see the similarities to FFXI. It might be slightly different though, because it doesn't feel necessarily that FFXI's quality has dropped off so much as it feels like it is being run by a skeleton team, with most people focused in other places.

Yes, you are right, this post was not at all about the POL News, but like I said, no one cares about that news.

SE passed the lead to the B team when they were designing WoG. They added recycled areas, recycled monsters that don't even belong on the continent, and stopped caring about quality in general.

One gem I noticed last week:
Omoikitte casts Sacrifice.
You absorb 1 of Ringthree's effects

Wrong subject, no punctuation, and would it kill them to specify which effect? Bah.

If I ever write a column for you, it would be How Not To Make a Video Game, but you'd need a subpoena validated by a notary public to make me write one. :)

If you use Internet Explorer (don't) and go to Stratics.com (don't) then prepare to have "Infostealer.Gampass" steal your FFXI account.

GOOD JOB EVERYONE

I've been reading your blog for a long time and I just wanted to take this chance to complement you on what a wonderful blog you have.

I really enjoy the new format and it's so refreshing to see so many good people (even though I don't know you personally) write about the game we all know and love.

Keep up the good work!
