Play Better, Suck Less: Breaking the Code.

Play Better, Suck Less is a column dedicated to getting the most out of your FFXI experience in game and out. Whether Windower improvements, new game-play techniques, sweet strats or new tech, it will all be covered here! Today, we have a little program to help out those that can't count (like me).

When SE added in the new treasure caskets that drop from mobs in the original zones they added a whole new dynamic to leveling and farming. Now with these new caskets you could get temporary buff items or permanent ones or even gear. To get the better items you had to figure out the lock on the casket, which is pretty easy for the analytical mind, but not so easy for those melee-brains like me. :) To help out with the situation there is the Tresure Casket Calculator. The nice thing about this is that it is an independent program so it doesn't require Windower or any other third-party program.Basically, it is just a simple calculator that keeps track of the possible numbers of the lock on the casket. It doesn't do anything fancy outside of that but it does provide a helping hand for those that are easily frustrated or confused. :) Not only does it track your potential outcomes, but it can even generate a guess for you. Very simple, very effective, just like anything like this should be.

I know that I promised the Salvage helper for this week, but I am still checking it out and I want to make sure everything is kosher and it works well before I suggest it. If you have any interesting windower add-ons, assists or general suggestions to help Play Better and Suck Less then leave us a comment and let us know!

I think needing a calculator to figure out possible treasure casket combinations makes you play better, but suck more...use some part of your brain...please

LoL I also own an automatic butt scratcher...when I get a little sweaty during an open window of HNM this device goes off and scratches my arse allowing me to play better, and suck less...I love you ring! Don't forget that
